MOVING TO QUEENSLAND

Queensland is similar to other states in Australia in that its laws and legislation are based on a similar system of courts and judiciary.  Lawyers may like to argue at length over the finer points of the various differences found in the Queensland legal system, but for the average person there are only a few things worth keeping in mind if you plan to move to Queensland.
Buying a Home

Buying a home in Queensland involves a written contract of sale, as in other states.  However, in Queensland it is not general practice to exchange contracts as it can be in other parts of the country.  The purchaser in Queensland usually signs the contract with the purchase price indicated, and this then constitutes an offer which is delivered to the vendor.  Once the vendor signs the contract, the contract is accepted and becomes binding on the parties.  The form contract in common use is the standard form approved by the Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) and the Queensland Law Society (QLS).
